Alosra supermarket launched its first plastic bag free week across all of its Bahrain-based stores on November 18 and it was a resounding success.

This environmentally concious effort saved 95,000 plastic bags from being used as customers were offered alternative options.

Alosra supermarket alone uses five million plastic bags a year and with the launch of this initiative it takes its first step towards a series of changes that will help reduce this figure.

We need to start somewhere – it’s about taking small steps until we reach our ultimate goal.

We want to help transform Bahrain’s plastic infrastructure by working towards reducing our environmental impact.

Our vision is in line with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals; half of which are directly environmental in focus or address the sustainability of natural resources. That’s why Alosra is currently on a plastic reduction mission, working on finding suitable and sustainable packaging solutions for our products.

The plastic bag free week will continue to take place every month to help raise awareness and empower customers to change their habits.

BMMI was recognised by the Supreme Council for the Environment for launching this campaign and Alosra is committed to sustain this initiative, with the next plastic bag free week set to take place from tomorrow to January 2, 2019.

After the huge success of our selfless retreat in India last year, Namaste Bahrain is now running not one, but two one-week retreats this year.

Both retreats will be held at Satsanga retreat centre in Goa. Named one of the best Yoga retreat centres in India, it is run family-style by husband and wife owners and has two beautiful yoga shalas, a swimming pool, plenty of chill-out areas and its very own kitchen.

Everything about Satsanga shows how much care has gone into creating an atmosphere of tranquillity and integrity. The centre even offers in-house massages by the resident therapists and Ayurvedic cookery lessons. Outside the centre however, the world does continue; there are beaches to explore, restaurants to try out and markets to visit.
