BIB registers second straight victory
BAHRAIN Islamic Bank (BIB) registered its second successive win in the BBSA/Duty Free Snooker Championship beating Batelco 3-0 in a Group ‘C’ match at the Bahrain Billiards and Snooker Association (BBSA) premises in Umm Al Hassam.
Led by Bahrain’s top player Habib Subah, BIB lead this group with four points from two matches.
Al Okhowa win
SIX-MAN Al Okhowa were crowned champions of the seventh heat of the Under-14 Shootha Sa7 Soccer Tournament after beating Al Rayan 1-0 in the final at the East Riffa Club grounds.
Both Al Okhowa and Al Rayan have joined the 12 teams who earlier qualified for the grand final scheduled for May 16 at the Bahrain Football Association grounds in Riffa.
Abdulhamids strikes gold
BAHRAIN’S Abdulrahim Abdulhamid, a bronze medallist at the Asian Games in Doha, struck gold in the junior boys 14-17 age group (51-55kg) as Bahrain topped the medal table in first Bahrain Open Taekwondo Championships which concluded at the Umm Al Hassam Sports Complex.
Bahrain CC lift Fanar Cup
ERNST and Young-Bahrain Cricket Club lost the final match in the best of five series to Pakistan XI by four wickets but still won the Al Fanar Travels 25 overs Cup 3-2. Batting first, Ernst and Young-BCC scored 230 for seven in 25 overs with Mohammed Asif Jawed (104 from 63 deliveries) top scoring and useful contributions coming from Ashraf Baig (44 from 37), Adnan Butt (21 from 17) and Azeem ul Haq (21 from 13).
Nasir Hilal (two for 37) and Mohammed Adil Hanif (two for 27) were the most successful Pakistan XI bowlers.
In reply, Pakistan XI openers Imran Sajjad (71 from 33, seven fours and five sixes) and Rizwan Baig (25 from 14) blasted 66 runs in just five overs before Rizwan Baig was dismissed by Ashraf Baig.
