Bahrain win two more medals
BAHRAIN signed off from the 17th Asian Athletics Championship by winning another two medals on the final day of action at the Amman International Stadium in Jordan.
Sara Bakheet clinched a silver in the women's 1,500m final, while Isa Ishaq Abedeen claimed bronze in the men's 5,000m final. Bakheet finished her race in four minutes 26.21 seconds, only a fraction of a second behind India's Sinimol Paulose who won the event in 4: 25.67. In third was Vietnam's Truong Thanh Hang in 4:26.77.
Bahrain ended the championship with five medals overall, including two golds (Kareema Jassim in the women's 10,000m and 5,000m), one silver (Bakheet) and two bronzes (Abedeen, Mahboob in 10,000m). Bahrain were tenth overall among the 25 countries competing.
Hussain pips Sherooqi
BAHRAINI runner Redha Hussain narrowly beat Ghalib Sherooqi to win the penultimate race of the Bahrain Road Runners three-kilometre Summer Series.
Hussain crossed the finish in 10.30 minutes, just one second ahead of Sherooqi. In third was Jassim Mohammed with a time of 11.05 minutes while Ali Anbar was fourth overall while winning the men's M50 category in 11.06 minutes.
Thirty runners took part in the event. The final race in the three-km series will be on September 15 at the same venue, Awali's old cinema car park.
