Reaching out a helping hand

AS my summer break drew to a close I was undecided on how I should celebrate what was an end to an era and the beginning of a new chapter in my life.

I had lots of thoughts and plans on how to celebrate the end of the holidays although if anyone had suggested that it would be best to turn to a charity and volunteering for inspiration, I definitely would have called them crazy, for sure!
However, early one morning my brother received a call from the organisers of the Kingdom’s Society (Jam’ieyat el mamlaka) offering volunteering places for an event it was staging.
I was up for it until I checked the date. I was crushed to find out that the event fell on the eve of my first day back at school and I was a little concerned that my mind should be concentrating on learning matters.
After much angst, I decided take up the volunteering job and headed out to the Seef Mall to help a group of little kids who were all orphans have a wonderful day enjoying the games at the Magic Island.
It was really breathtaking to see these children having so much fun and watching their wonderful smiles during the play rides.
After they had been fed we took them across the mall to watch a fantastic cartoon movie. I did not regret volunteering at all although I might have had fun partying all night!
My advice to other Bahraini youngsters with time on their hands is to seriously consider using it more wisely and you may be surprised just how rewarding helping other people can be.
