Construction of the new Colin Montgomerie-designed golf course at Riffa Views is still well on schedule with two of the 18 holes having been sprigged and another two due to be planted by the end of the month.

The first harvest of Paspalum Sea Isle Supreme, the variety of grass being used on the championship course, was made earlier this month and the process of sprigging the grass onto the completed holes was carried out immediately.

“We expect to make a second harvest from the turf nursery by mid November,” explained Omer Alhaj, the golf course superintendent. “The second harvest will produce enough grass to sprig a further 5 holes meaning that by the end of November half of the course will have been planted and then the growing-in process begins.”

In order to keep pace with the planting of the completed holes, a second turf nursery has been established at the site. Shaping and planting of the final holes is expected to be completed by the end of March 2008 with the course on schedule to open at the end of April.

The new golf course, built on the site of the former Riffa Golf Club, will form the centrepiece of Riffa Views, a residential community consisting of over 900 luxury housing units divided into three signature estates, as well as commercial facilities, an international school, a mosque and many other amenities.
