Who is in your wallet or on your phone?

Hard cash and plastic money, driving licences and sales receipts ... wallets contain all sorts. But who do you carry in your wallet or on your mobile phone? Asma Salman asks shoppers in Bahrain to open up and unveil whose photos are close to their hearts and in their pockets.

1. Khalid Mahroon, 25, Bahraini

I have my old university student discount card that I still carry in my wallet. I went to Charles University in the Czech Republic to study telecommunications and although I left the Eastern European country in 2001 and returned to Bahrain I haven't thrown away my card. This card, with my teenage years photo on it, enabled me to get a student discount while travelling. I keep the card as a memento of the great days I spent at the university. That was a wonderful chapter in my life and it's a memory that I cherish.

2. Sughra Abdulrazzak, 20, Bahraini

These two photographs are of my family members. One is my nephew, Yousif who is two years old and the other is of my cousin Nassar who turned three recently. These photographs have been in my wallet since last year. I took Yousif and Nassar's photographs from their respective mothers because they are simply adorable. Although they live in Bahrain and I get to see them often but in these pictures they have an innocent expression on their face that I love.

3. Luke Shipperley, 19, Australian

This is my mate, Stewart May's photograph. I snapped him during a Maths lesson at our school, St Patrick's, in Brisbane. It was 2006 and we were goofing around while the class was in progress. I keep this picture in my phone as it reminds me of my school days and our carefree attitude then.

4. John Rylance, 33, British

In my wallet are photographs of three people that are very close to my heart. One photograph is of my wife, Eva taken eight years ago in Abu Dhabi which is also where I met her. I remember this picture was taken just before she had our older son Damian. The other photograph is of my son Damian when he was three and the third is the first photograph of my then newborn baby girl, Lara. Why do I keep their photographs in my wallet; they are my family and I love them!

5. Tarik Al Dakhil, 38, Saudi

This is a very special photograph for me. My son, Khalil who was four months then is all wrapped up in his warm woollies. I took this photograph in a shopping mall in Dammam and he is looking straight at the camera with his beautiful, innocent expression. At that time he was our only child and although my wife has just given birth to our second child, Khalil being my first born shares a close bond with me.

7. Rana Abdullah Ahmed, 20, Bahraini

I have a passport size picture of myself and my best friend Sara in my wallet. Sara is like my sister and I share everything with her which is why I carry her snapshot with me all the time. Bahraini Sara, 20, who was with Rana at the time flipped open her sleek Motorola phone and showed an amazing picture of both of them all dressed up and posing for the camera. Best friends Sara and Rana are indeed in each others pockets with their secrets and their mugshots.

6. Kannan S Ayyer, 52, Indian

My family is not living in Bahrain with me and I carry their photographs on my i-mate. Whenever I'm missing them I just flip open my portable phone cum computer and see them. This is a photograph of my younger son Vikram who goes to school back home in India. I took this shot of him in Seef Mall when he was visiting Bahrain last year. He was 16-years-old then. I have also linked the photograph of my wife and my two boys with their respective telephone numbers so when they call instead of their numbers being displayed on their screen their photographs come up.
