Batelco started the New Year with the launch of O-net Mobile Broadband, its first HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) service to customers in Bahrain.

HSDPA is a 3.5G mobile telephony communication protocol, which allows specific networks to have higher data transfer speeds and capacity. O-net HSDPA speed will be up to 3.6mpbs, which is double the speed of similar services currently available in the Kingdom.

O-net Mobile Broadband service, part of Batelco's 'O' Services which were launched on December 16, 2007, comes with a data card that enables customers to browse the Internet, send and receive SMS, chat using existing instant messaging service and access business applications, all from the convenience of a laptop or PC or even their HSDPA enabled mobiles, anywhere and anytime.

Large volumes of data such as large e-mail attachments can now be downloaded faster than ever before.

Customers may purchase the HSDPA device and plug it into their PC's or laptops to access the Internet. The simple plug and browse device delivers mobility with the fastest Broadband speed in the Kingdom. To access the Internet from HSDPA-enabled mobile phones, an HSDPA device is not required.

A variety of packages are available for O-net Mobile Broadband including the following:

BD10 - 1GB download capacity and 45 free SMS monthly

BD14 - 4GB download capacity and 45 free SMS monthly

BD29 - 10GB download capacity and 75 free SMS monthly

"O-net Mobile Broadband service delivers wireless broadband mobility with superior speeds - the fastest available in the Kingdom - and boosts Batelco's extensive variety of world-class products and services," said Batelco corporate affairs general manager Ahmed Al Janahi.

"O-net will enable our customers to work better and more efficiently and stay connected no matter where they are located in the kingdom."
