Batelco promised that by the end of 2007 the kingdom's access to global information and communications services would be ahead of numerous international markets, a promise which the company has delivered on, said chief executive Peter Kaliaropoulos.

"The recent launch of Batelco's New Generation O Mobile services, based on 3.5G technology, which offers a comprehensive range of the latest mobile products and services means that Batelco's customers have access to the fastest mobile broadband service available in the kingdom, giving them the competitive advantage when it comes to swift mobile communications," he said.

Batelco's 3.5G portfolio which includes mobile broadband, mobile video calling, mobile video conferencing and a new mobile portal, has been rolled out at an initial investment of $19.4 million.

"The new service has met with record-breaking success. Our target of 30,000 customers was expected to be reached by the end of 2008. Since the National Day launch over 38,000 customers have subscribed," said Mr Kaliaropoulos.
