Jack Jordan (del Toro) is an ex-con-born-again-Christian-recovering-addict, Paul Rivers (Penn) is a mathematical genius dying of heart disease and Cristina Peck (Watts) is a suburban housewife, mother and recovering drug addict. When Jack kills Cristina's husband and children in a hit and run, the husband's heart is used to save Paul's life and the three are connected in a way that can only lead to more tragedy.
