A BITE into Bahrain's tourism

Organisers of the Bahrain International Travel Expo (BITE) 2008 are hoping to attract 20,000 visitors to this year's event which will be staged at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre between May 14 and 17.

Group chairman of Magnum Holdings, parent company of the Magnum Events and Exhibitions Management (MEEM), Jamil A Wafa, said: "Our motto is 'bringing the world to Bahrain'. We aren't a political arm but we are trying to promote the island in its true sense in terms of tourism."

The expo, will be inaugurated by Crown Prince and BDF Commander-in-Chief Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and has already attracted 110 exhibitors.

In addition to last year's participants, there will be 10 new countries on display - Abu Dhabi, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ethiopia, Hungary, Indonesia, Japan, Slovakia, Spain and Sweden.

The exhibition will also feature airlines, car rentals, conventions and exhibitions, cruise lines, health resorts and spas, hotels, MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibition) organisers, tourism boards, tourism channels, tour operators, travel insurance as well as travel and tourism publications.

Hisham Al Baradie, chairman of organisers MEEM added: "BITE offers the ideal platform for showcasing promotions and launching new products and services which simultaneously nurtures relations with existing clients, while developing relations with new clientele."

Further details of the event explaining the floor plan and the final list of exhibitors will be confirmed by April.
