Watch out for it: Prison Break Season 3 on Showtime

Given its highly addictive nature, Prison Break should carry a government health warning. This outrageously contrived, yet deliciously thrilling series hits Showseries, for its third season and begins with a real bang on April 13 at 8pm, as our hero Michael Schofield has to break out of prison - again!

Fear not if you're a newcomer to the show and worried about what you've missed, now is an ideal time to join in the fun. Prison Break has effectively wiped the slate clean for the third season by dumping the motley crew of criminals, heroes and disgruntled government agents into a lawless Panama prison for crimes they did not commit.

There's plenty of scores and vendettas to be settled in this brutal environment, but can the goodies and baddies put aside their differences to secure their freedom?

The previous two years were spent following Schofield's audacious and ultimately successful attempt to break his brother Lincoln Burrows out of prison to save him from a death sentence for a brutal murder the government framed him for. Once out, they were pursued by a variety of shady agents, bounty hunters and escaped convicts all with their own agenda and motivations.

In particular, the murderous T-Bag and former corrupt prison guard Brad Bellick are two entertaining supporting characters so obnoxious, that you can only cross your fingers and hope they get their comeuppance.

The ending of the second season set things up brilliantly for the new instalments, with the brothers both pardoned for their crimes by the American government. However, before he could return to home soil a free man, Michael was slung into a top security prison in Panama alongside some of his worst foes.

Lock up your disbelief, settle down and struggle to contain your excitement through the exhilarating action, plot twists and nail biting cliffhangers. There's a tense breakout on the cards, but at what cost?
