LEADING jewellery store Joyalukkas is celebrating the Indian festival of 'Akshaya Tritiya' with a golden token of good luck for customers.
Every shopper who buys BD150 of jewellery today or tomorrow will receive a free gold coin aimed at spreading a little happiness and wealth throughout the year.
Akshaya tritiya is the name of the third day that falls after the 'no moon' day.
"Whatever good deed you do on this day is considered to last forever and would increase and multiply with time," a company spokesman said
"Hence 'AKSHAYAM' gold bought on this day was considered auspicious because it was believed to increase in the year to come.
"Gold is still the greatest symbol of prosperity and well being. It is sacred. It signifies eternity. Even the colour yellow, the colour of gold, has a special meaning - Manjal (yellow) is the mangalyam (the state of being married, particularly for women).
"The water washed off from the gold thali that women wear is supposed to give them energy and health. Gold is associated with growth. Thus, when people buy gold on Akshaya Tritiya, they are also praying that the year ahead will be a prosperous and peaceful one."
