A weekly competition is now underway using Bahrain's only golf simulator, located at the Riffa Views Golf & Leisure retail outlet at Country Mall in Budaiya.

Barry Hobday won the prize for getting his ball nearest to the pin flag in the first week of the contest after managing to hit his tee shot to within 8.5 yards of the hole on the famous Pebble Beach, USA golf course.

The competition will be run every day throughout June with the weekly prizes being sponsored by Callaway, one of the world's leading golf hardware manufacturers.

Those wishing to take part can simply turn up at the shop and will be given three chances to get their ball as close as possible to the simulated pin on the allocated course and hole of the week.

This week's contest is being held on the 8th hole of the world famous Old Course at St Andrew's, the home of golf. The winner will be announced next Sunday.

For an hourly fee of BD20, up to four golfers at a time can enjoy extremely lifelike virtual golf using the simulator which boasts around 50 of the world's top golf courses such as Turnberry, the Belfry and Carnoustie.

Players can choose which clubs they will use on any particular course, the weather conditions and even the pace of the greens they putt on. They can play in the match play, stroke play or stableford formats and can enter their handicaps prior to teeing off.
