A thought for environment

I have always been interested in studying politics and social science subjects.

I have never taken a liking to subjects such as chemistry, biology or pure, boring physics. As I enrolled into the IB Diploma programme, I was forced to choose at least one science subject and as the three choices mentioned were never an option, I was stuck with "environmental systems".

I mainly based my decision on the fact that the subject largely focused on what the earth was made up of and what the best ways were to conserve it.

I also thought this might be an easy course. Well, let me say this, it was not.

Studying about the environment was challenging and fruitful and I have become a truly better human being because of it.

I know that it does sound a bit cheesy but it is the truth.

There are many small things that we as young people can do to make this world a better place.

When I was younger there didn't seem much point on worrying about the future of the planet because we're not on it for that long, are we? However, I now realise that the actions we carry out right now can make future generations suffer and I believe that it is a sin if we make it difficult for them.

We can take small steps such as changing our light bulbs in our rooms to ones with a longer life span consuming lower energy. And, another method that we, as the younger generation can do is to recycle paper products that we use as students.

You would not believe the amount of paper that I have used this academic year in nine months alone! All of it could be easily recycled.

But to help the environment we need information. What companies are out there and what services do they offer? Can anyone offer me and our readers' further advice on recycling in Bahrain?
