Hi everybody! Well this last week I have been out and about all over the place. It started off when I was asked to compere the opening of TGI Fridays in the new City Centre.
I had never been there before and it was only when I parked my car in one of numerous car parks that I realised how big the place really is. I walked around for about 20 minutes until I found where TGI Fridays was.
The Mall is very impressive and when all the outlets are finished it's certainly going to be a place where a lot of people will want to go. Especially the water park, I can't wait to check that out. Anyway, I met up with the SJ Media guys, Gareth and Danielle, who had booked me for this special event. Also, there was DJ Ollie, who was putting on the music. Starting off the proceedings was the 'cutting of the red ribbon ceremony' performed by the general manager and the Egyptian and Philippine Ambassadors. After the formalities the enthusiastic staff came out and performed a couple of energetic dance routines. They are great fun to watch.
Also this week I popped along to Bizzie Beez where they held a special zoo/farm day. All sorts of animals were brought in for the kids to see and you could meet and greet and even cuddle them (though the animals got a little too much love from some kids). We filmed some episodes of Music Mania while we were there and I had a great time interviewing a few people especially Geoff Ward who is new to Bahrain, working here as a teacher at Riffa Views International School.
I got him to do the 60-second challenge interview. Unfortunately, although he made an impressive effort, he didn't finish in time (perhaps due to the language barrier; he is from Calgary in Canada!) Or perhaps it was because he wasn't wearing his cowboy hat. Ha! All in all it was a fun day out for all the family.
Next up in my busy week was a double birthday for Zac and Omar, who were both celebrating being nine years of age on the same day.
When I first found out about the party I was told it would be all based around 1970s disco and when I entered the room through the sliver slashed curtains and saw a lot of the kids dressed up in 70s costumes I knew we were in for a good time.
We did some fun games and a variation on musical statues; when the music stopped everybody had to get into funky disco poses reminiscent of John Travolta in 'Staying Alive' ('who?' the kids ask!)
Everybody got into the spirit of it and luckily I had some mums and dads around to choose who was the slowest to pose etc...because if I have to choose who is 'out' I feel like I'm letting the kids down... I'm just too soft. We did some YMCA, cha-cha-slide and other fun dances. Then it was time to sing Happy Birthday, and the cake was something to behold. It was done out as a 70s disco, resplendent with DJ decks and speakers and was, well, funky! That was definitely the word for the day, as you can see from the photo!
Don't forget if you see me out and about come up and say hello! Keep Happy,
All my love
Krazy Kevin
