Wednesday (Dec 3) Bahrain Fashion Week opens at the Coral Beach Club today and will run until Friday at 6pm. The event will feature different designers from Bahrain, New York, the Netherlands, the Ukraine and India. An exhibition will also be held tomorrow and the day after from 4pm to 6pm. Tickets are priced at BD12 per day and BD30 for all three days.

Sixty singers, accompanied by a brass quartet, will take to stage at the Golden Tulip Hotel to ring in the Christmas season in Bahrain.

Alongside old favourite Christmas carols such as 'O Come All Ye Faithful', 'Jingle Bells' and Good King Wenceslas' the singers will also add some new carols to their repertoire when they perform the ninth century traditional Irish melody 'The Wexford Carol' and 'Carol of the Russian Children'.

The Manama Singers are multicultural group of people from all walks of life and the music director Alistair Auld's choice of carols this year reflects their diversity with traditional carols from England, a spiritual from the US and the Ukrainian 'Carol of the Bells'.

The brass quartet will feature Andy Holman and Jonathan Payne on trumpet and Roger Park and Stuart Sanders on horn.

Concerts will take place at 5pm and 8pm, the former specially arranged for families with young children.

Mince pies, gingerbread cookies and other Christmas faire will be available for purchase during the interval.

Tickets are priced at BD6 for adults and BD4 for children under 12 and are available at Al Osra supermarket, The Bookcase and the Dilmun Club.

Thursday (Dec 4)

The Bahrain Caledonian Society is hosting a St Andrew's Day Ball at the Awal Ballroom in the Gulf Hotel, Adliya. Dress code is national dress or black tie. Reception is from 7.30pm and the dinner starts at 8pm. Music will be provided by Rusty Nail and the evening will also feature a grand prize draw. Popular UK-based DJ Rocky from Xpress 2 will perform a Level at the Mishal Hotel in Hoora. Xpress 2 were a corner stone of the early rave scene coming out of the 80s. DJ Rocky will be accompanied by Mr K on warm up duties from 10pm. For details contact Nina on 39649590.

Friday (Dec 5)

Papi Chulo's at the Palace Hotel in Adliya will host a party called - 'One Night in Jamaica' from 9pm. The evening will feature DJ Coppershot who is flying in from Jamaica exclusively for the event. He will mix tunes to the sounds of reggae, RnB and hip hop. For details contact 36271122.

The Kerala Social and Cultural Association (KSCA) will host the Mega Show Bazaar which will be presented by India-based organisation, Taara Arts at the Indian School grounds.

Leading film and television artistes from South Indian state Kerala including actress Bhama will perform at the show which will begin at 7pm.

The event will also feature a team of comedians led by Prasanth Punnapra and Guinness alongside singers Thushar, Preetha, Ramesh Babu and Shekha.

Saturday (Dec 6)

A three-day intensive painting and drawing workshop on 'exploring the human form' will be led by Seana Mercedes Mallen in Awali from between 9am and 3.30pm.

Participants will be able to work with many different media from graphite to acrylic paint, using experimental and new techniques to capture the movement and emotion of the human form.

International artist Seana holds an MA in Drawing as Process from Kingston University and has held exhibitions in the USA, England and Bahrain.

She has led similar workshops for both undergraduate and MA students in London and has been teaching drawing and painting to beginners and more advanced students for over 15 years. The cost is BD125, which includes materials, the models' fees and a light lunch and refreshments. The daily rate is BD50.

Tuesday (Dec 9)

Moroccan artist Hakim Ghazali is holding a solo exhibition at the Albareh Art Gallery in Adliya until December 20. The 'Doors of Light' features 10 original sculptural artworks done on traditional doors.
