The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain Hotel & Spa will host an Eid Al Adha Brunch on December 10 from 12.30pm to 4pm at the La Mediterranee offering a feast of Middle Eastern favorites and local specialties. Well-known comedian Russell Peters will perform at a Bahrain Comedy event on December 11 at the Bahrain Exhibition Centre, Manama.

Peters will make his debut island appearance along with some local stand-up comedians who performed during the first show of Bahrain Comedy show featuring the Axis of Evil in October 2008 including Wadah Swar, Yousif Taha and Rehman Akhtar.

DJ Imran Al-Aradi will MC the show and DJ Outlaw will also entertain.

Peters is a Canadian of Anglo-Indian origin who has been working in comedy since the age of 19.

His jokes are mainly based on stereotypes from different ethnicities and cultural backgrounds.

Batelco Melodic Meet 2008 will be held at The Indian School's Jashanmal Auditorium, Isa Town, on December 12.

The event, organised by the Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation (BDSF) in association with the Kerala Arts and Cultural Association (KACA), will start at 7.30pm.

It will feature performances by well-known Indian stars including Anwar Sadath, Mohammed Haneef, and Sangeetha Prabhu.

Also at the event will be Baiju Jose and Babu Jose, popularly known as the Comedy Cousins.

Tickets are at BD1. There will be a raffle draw with the first prize of a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer.

The Lobby Lounge will showcase Christmas specialties, cakes and sweets during a special afternoon tea-time priced at BD12++ per person. Guests can enjoy Christmas carols between 6 and 6.30pm and from 7.15 to 8pm. The hotel will also be hosting a Christmas Brunch on December 25 in its Grand Foyer offering a wide array of food displays and live cooking stations priced at BD30++ per person.

On New Year's Eve, the Al Ghazal Ballroom will host a party from 9pm onwards. An a la carte light snack menu will be available together with a cash bar. All guests dining in one of the restaurants on that night gain automatic entrance to this event. For others tickets are priced at BD 25 ++ per adult.

A New Year's Day Brunch will be on offer on January 1 with Indian, Arabic and Continental specialties from 8am to 4pm priced at BD 29 ++ per person.

Bollywood singer Babul Supriyo is set to perform on December 15 at the Gulf Convention Centre in the Gulf Hotel, Adliya.

The Filipino Club in co-operation with FC Sayaw Unlimited will host the Ms Philippines Bahrain 2008 competition on December 17 at the Gilgamesh Hall in the Golden Tulip Hotel, Manama. The show will begin at 7pm. Proceeds of the event will go to the Bahrain society for children with communication and behavioural difficulties (Alia) and the distressed workers OWWA centre. A book festival will be held by the Northern Municipal Council at its premises in Budaiya from December 19 to 26 offering affordable books to support charity.

English as well as Arabic language second-hand books will be available and will be sold at prices ranging from 100 fils to BD1.

The proceeds will be allocated to low-income families and orphans in the Northern Governorate.

Donated books will be accepted at the council's office from 7am to 7pm until December 10.
