Raise your voice to benefit peers

Last week, I watched a riveting documentary by one of my favorite journalists, Christiane Amanpour. The documentary was entitled 'scream bloody murder'.

The documentary focused on genocide. As countries like Rwanda and Cambodia were in turmoil and many people were being slaughtered, the world sat back in silence.

Presidents and leaders excused themselves saying that they preferred not to meddle into another country's issues. It is really rather ironic how many rulers suddenly turn their attention and become decisive when their own interests are perceived to be threatened!

My teacher taught me this quote last week. Edmund Burk once said that "the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing".

I urge all my readers to have a voice, and use it to benefit their peers and their country. We have arrived at a point in our society where silence is no longer an option and that openness and honesty are essential in order to bring about solutions to many of our problems and the world's as well.

We must learn from the consequences of those who have stayed silent and inspire from those who have decided to take action.
