Bahrain's sixth annual National Day Golf Tournament will be held this week on the new Colin Montgomerie-designed championship course at the Royal Golf Club.
The tournament, the brain-child of Shaikh Ebrahim bin Khalid Al Khalifa, was designed to promote friendship and goodwill between Bahraini and expatriate golfers by teaming them up in the better ball format.
"We are really looking forward to holding this event on our new golf course," said Michael Braidwood, the club's general manager. "We have space for 60 pairs of golfers, each pair made up of one Bahraini and one expatriate. The field will be made up of Royal Golf Club members, Bahrain Golf Club members, past champions and members of the Bahrain National Team and Bahrain Golf Association Committee."
Day one of the competition will take place over 18 holes on Tuesday with a double tee start. The top 30 pairs will go on to play a final round on the morning of December 17 while those not making the cut will have the opportunity to take part in a fun Texas Scramble competition running alongside the finals.
A prize-giving lunch reception for all the competitors will be held at the Royal Golf Club.
