Bahrain Advanced Toastmasters club registered under Toastmasters International is conducting a workshop - Transforming Parents: Understanding Perspectives - An interactive workshop on parenting on January 28 at the Salman Cultural Centre, Gudaibiya.

The four-hour interactive workshop will focus on the needs and challenges of positive parenting with reference to teenagers. The training modules will comprise of simulative exercises, role-play, relevant examples and suitable visual aids to stimulate and bring out the potential abilities of the participating parents.

The workshop will be conducted by Dr Usha Devarajan who has experience in all aspects of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) practices. She has a doctorate in communications and an ADR certification from Hamline University, USA.

Popular Productions Ltd will present 'The Woman in Black', one of the world's most successful plays. which is still running in London's West End after a record breaking 20 years, in Dubai for a two week from January 28 to February 6 at the Madinat Theatre in Souk Madinat, Jumeriah.

The play is based on Susan Hills' bestselling original novel and has been produced in over 40 different countries.

Stephen Mallatratt's adaptation for the stage uses much of the author's own descriptive writing and dialogue, while transforming the novel into a totally gripping piece of theatre.

The production features two accomplished West End actors in the roles of 'The Actor' and 'Arthur Kipps' in a haunting staging directed by John Payton.

Performances will be held on January 28, 29, 30, 31 and February 3, 4, 5 and 6 at 8pm. Matinee shows will be held on January 29 at 2pm, January 30 at 3pm and February 4 and 6 at 2pm.

Artist Demi McLeod will be hosting her exhibition 'ephemeral space' at the Gulf Hotel's Palace Lounge which opens on January 29 at 7 pm and continues until February 7.

Demi McLeod was trained at the Royal Collage, London and now lives in Bahrain. Working as a gallery owner and curator in Australia, she was intimately influenced by the art world and this is reflected in her upcoming exhibition.

Superstar DJ Fatboy Slim will make his Middle East debut when he performs during the Dubai Shopping Festival 2009 on February 11 at the Barasti Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort, Dubai.

Fatboy Slim (aka Norman Cook) has successfully helped take dance music from the clubs into the living room and to the top of the charts - earning him a unique place in the nation's heart along the way. He has four acclaimed albums: Better Living Through Chemistry, You've Come A Long Way Baby, Halfway Between The Gutter And The Stars and Palookaville.

To date, Fatboy has sold over eight million albums and his music has defined a genre, giving him the platform to become the world's biggest DJ.

In 2003, he performed to 260,000 people at a free party on Brighton Beach, which led to the inception of the Big Beach Boutique DVD released on Southern Fried Records, which documented the now legendary party.

Center Stage Management, Dubai will host the Desert Rock Festival for its sixth edition to be held at Dubai Festival City on March 6.

Six international heavy metal bands will dominate the stage with seven hours of live music, supported by two lucky bands chosen from competitions currently running across the globe.

This year's festival will feature Motorhead, Arch Enemy, Opeth, ChimaIra, August Burns Red and Nervecell aside from the two winning bands.

The event also marks Motorhead's first ever performance in the Middle East since the beginning of their career in 1975.

SJ Media Group in association with Al Rashid Group will be hosting the second annual Shoe Mart Walkathon on March 27 at Amwaj Islands.

The non-profit event aims to help raise money for Bahrain Mobility International Centre. People from different backgrounds, cultures and ages are encouraged to get involved in this charity event which will be divided into two routes - a 3km route and a 5km route.

The event ends with a carnival that will include games and entertaining activities for children and their families. There will also be a live band, clowns and other performers.
