It should have been a weekend of celebration for race ace Hamad Al Fardan but instead it turned into a weekend horror show for the popular Bahraini in the GP2 Asia series.

On day one, his car stalled on the first lap and in the big race on the following day, he was involved in a collision and conked out on the 14th lap.

Hamad, 21, admitted: "I am a little angry. There were a couple of changes made in the car after the first race that were just not good.

"The team made some really big mistakes in changing the gears and there was a problem with the brakes. The car was not perfect for the big race so there wasn't anything I could do - it was out of my hands.

"I pushed myself to the limit, was in the 10th position, suddenly someone broke really early in front of me, my brakes weren't that good, so we ended up making contact. I broke my front wing and was out of the race.

"But in the end, I worked hard, the team worked hard. What can I say it was just hard luck."

Trying to put a positive face on his bitter disappointment he added that he was going to continue training and working hard for the next race which is to take place in Qatar in three weeks' time.

He added: "The car will be ready for the next race and I hope that it will be good.

"I thank all my loyal fans who supported me over the weekend and I hope I will achieve something greater for them during the next round."

On a brighter note, Sergio Perez, who drives for the Campos Grand Prix team, took first place in a swift sweep becoming the first Mexican driver ever to win a GP2 race.

On the Speedcar Series front, Briton Formula One legend Johnny Herbert snatched a spectacular win after battling it out with Palm Beach Team members Gianni Morbidelli who came in second and new driver Thomas Biagi who gained the third spot.

The UAE's Shaikh Hasher Al Maktoum from the UP team finished in seventh position.

In the Batelco 2000CC Challenge, Shaikh Jaber bin Ali Al Khalifa was victorious clinching the titles for both races this weekend.

Overall, the Grand Racing Weekend at the Bahrain International Circuit was a success for some and an upset for others.
