Exclusive business club, Signature Clubs International (SCI) is set to be launched in March on the top two floors of the Bahrain Financial Harbour.

The Capital Club Bahrain, will be part of SCI which owns, develops and manages high level clubs in major cities of the Middle East and also provides management and consultancy services.

Co-founder and executive director Guy Guillemard said: "We believe business people need a natural place to meet each other and there isn't such a club in Bahrain.

"This is very much a place where leading people in business, finance and government sectors in the community can get together to have discussions and exchange ideas."

The club will also provide other social activities.

He said: "My colleagues and I have been involved in creating top level clubs for about 25 years.

"We had a discussion with various eminent business personalities and we agreed that this will help attract inward investment and business relationships that will benefit Bahrain.

"We see ourselves as an organisation that makes a positive contribution and improves the city.

"We try to be a role model in our communuity through our interactions with the society, the way we look after our staff and the way we look after our members.

"Each person joining has automatic use of 250 clubs over 50 countries around the world.

"This means that people from those countries can come here and meet people. It will facilitate business in general."

When asked if this was a good time to invest in such a prestigious club, Mr Guillemard explained that for the club the recession was time for the business sector to meet and exchange ideas.

He said: "We have found that the recession makes it even more important to network and meet with people.

"You may cut budgets but one thing you need to do is keep in close touch with potential customers, existing customers, shareholders and other CEOs and directors as they are often a source of important information and also because they may be your next customer. So I think it's very relevant.

"In the Capital Club in Dubai we have had one of the busiest months with more new members joining in January."

The club has three kinds of membership -corporate, personal and non-resident membership and currently boasts around 300 members already signed up of 19 different nationalities.

SCI was formed in 2005 by Mr Guillemard and Russell Matchamin in co-operation with shareholder Abraaj Capital. David Willamson, a club industry veteran, has been appointed as the general manager by SCI for Capital Club Bahrain and the chairman of the board of governors is Shaikh Mohammed bin Essa Al Khalifa.
