Wednesday (February 28) Egyptian Jehan Saleh will hold her first solo exhibition at the Bahrain Contemporary Art Society in Juffair on Wednesday at 7pm until February 28. Jehan has been working at Albareh Art gallery in Adliya for the past five years and has had the opportunity to observe the works of many great artists throughout the years.

Jehan's work embodies both sensitivity and transparency. The exhibition will be held under the patronage of Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa.

Ahlia University's Media Production Centre will be offering a free videotape production and studio photography workshop at its premises in the GOSI complex, Exhibition Avenue. Video production sessions will be held today and on February 28 and the Studio Photography workshop will also be held today. Timings are 10am to 4pm.

KSDi in Budaiya is offering acting classes for students of all ages at The Children's House Theater in Budaiya. Bahrain's first ever Screen Actor Training Programme is expected to create a high level of interest and spur further development of the film/creative community. Classes will be offered for children from five to 12 years, teenagers from 13 to 18 and adults above 18. The class size will be limited so registration is on a first come first served basis.

The classes will be broken down into 15-week courses emphasising screen acting techniques utilising variations of 'The Method' created by Konstantin Stanislavski.

The sessions will be video taped using KSDI's state-of-the-art production equipment. The performances will then be immediately reviewed in the class on the big screen for direct feedback designed to improve the actor's performance.

At the end of the session, each actor will have their work showcased in a big-screen open house event for their friends, family, and associates.

Each student will graduate with a professionally edited demo reel DVD of their performances with an option of having their work posted on a website for friends/family/casting directors and directors to view internationally.

KSDi general manager and veteran Hollywood director, Rick Beeman will head up the classes.

French artist Catherine Protsenko will be holding an exhibition at the Casa dell'Arte gallery in Zinj until March 5. Catherine was born in 1956 in Angers, France. She studied drawing and painting at the Atelier Martin-Talboutier in France and at one of Paris' art schools. She then enrolled at the Manufacture Nationale des Gobelins, where she studied Art History and Tapestry and developed her drawing skills over seven years. During this time, she created tapestries inspired by the paintings of artists Rouan, Dewasne and Latapie. Since 1987, Catherine has been manufacturing tapestries from her own creations as well as works on canvas. Morocco remains her favorite subject and she has painted it in a variety of ways, including using figurative and abstract approaches.

Monday (February 23)

Seven artists will exhibit their work at Albareh Art CafŽ, Adliya. The Fifty-Fifty exhibition will be held until March 5.

The concept is to show that exhibitions can find new venues away from traditional spaces of galleries or museums. Artists include Bahrainis Ebrahim bu Saad and Jaffar Al Oraibi, Iraqis Ahmed Albahrani and Mahmoud Al Obidi, Qataris Ali Hassan and Salman A Malek and Egyptian Mahmoud Al Maghrabi. Tuesday (February 24)

Elham Creative Arts Group will present an evening of Bahrain's future history at the 17th Monthly Gathering at the Bahrain Fort Museum at 7pm.

The architecturally designed Qal'at Al -Bahrain Site Museum aka the Bahrain Fort Museum is an impressive building majestically sitting on the Ancient Harbor and Capital of Dilmun, a World Heritage Site.

Ali Al Saeed will recite poems from his new book 'Sad Man Dancing' and artist Khalid Al Rowaie will talk of his new book 'Tranquility...Nothing Else'.
