State of Play is a very interesting movie. I highly recommend it, specially for those who are into crime stories.
It is about a reporter Cal McCaffrey (Crowe), working with the Washington Globe, who is trying to discover the facts on two Georgetown murders when a female political aide dies in an apparent suicide.
The aide Sonia (Maria Thayer) was on the staff of Congressman Stephen Collins (Affleck) who is in the middle of congressional hearing investigating a private security firm's alleged war crimes.
But that was not the only problem Collins was facing ... he was also having an affair with the dead aide McCaffrey and his colleague Della (Rachel McAdams) are trying to expose the truth, but that is something of a hassle for him since he and Collins are good friends.
The affair provokes a media frenzy but McCaffrey senses that there is more to the story
As he gets closer to the truth, McCaffrey discovers the circumstances surrounding Sonia's death are not what they seem.
There are many twists and turns which keep you confused and glued to your seat. The details are slowly revealed and the puzzles are put together piece by piece.
Yes, it is a slow process but the beauty of it is that it keeps you guessing right till the end.
I believe Crowe did a wonderful job in this movie. He has a different look since gaining weight and has a longer hair to fit his character.
Affleck is of course the sweet looking boy ... but all the main characters held their parts well thanks to the director Kevin MacDonald.
So plan a night out with your friends or partners and go see this movie while it is showing in our cinemas.
One last thing I need to add is that no matter how good State of Play is, it is a movie that you can watch only once.
Showing in: Seef II, Saar Cineplex and Al Jazeera Cineplex
