Alba's commitment to gender equality at the work place and support for the rights of its female employees was given an added boost with the formation of a dedicated sub-committee for women members of the Alba Labour Union during a special ceremony held at the Alba Club.

Alba chairman Mahmood Hashim Kooheji presided over the launch of the women's sub-committee, which is expected to further strengthen and enhance the work of Alba Union widely regarded as the largest labour union in Bahrain.

Also present at the launch were Alba chief executive Ahmed Saleh Al Noami, Alba Union chairman Ali Bin Ali, members of the sub-committee and female employees from Alba.

The women's sub-committee, which will be chaired by Awatif Mohammed, will address some of the unique concerns of female employees, follow-up on requests and suggestions, examine their grievances and present a united voice in resolving issues related to women workers.

Mr Kooheji said: "Among companies in Bahrain's industrial sector, we are proud to say that Alba has the highest number of women workers. Currently, the number of women employees at Alba exceeds 80, which is a huge accomplishment in our line of business. We consider them to be key assets in our growth plans and value their contribution in making Alba a successful organisation.

"The Union plays a very significant role in the life of our company and we respect their input in forging stronger and fruitful ties with our employees. There is a mutual benefit in this relationship and we share a common objective, that is, to ensure Alba continues to maintain its leadership role in the aluminium industry."
