It's hard to believe that Mini, the small car with the big attitude, is turning 50 today.

Arguably one of the most loved and unique car marques in the history of motoring, Mini has become an object and subject of obsession for so many people across the world.

Sir Alec Issigonis was the original mastermind behind the car that went on to become an icon of the 1960s. He was set a task by the then British Motor Corporation (BMC) to build a car that had lots of space inside and minimum dimensions outside, seats for four passengers, impeccable driving characteristics, superior fuel economy, all at a very affordable price. The result was the Morris Mini Minor which was born on the August 26, 1959.

To celebrate the golden anniversary, Mini is going back to its roots with the launch of two special limited editions:

The Mini50 Mayfair looks back proudly on half a century of motoring history with classic elegant styling, while the Mini 50 Camden looks forward to the next 50 years in a contemporary, colourful way. Both models will arrive in the Middle East market in November.

Sarah Klippert, Manager for Mini at BMW Group Middle East said: "It is a proud day for Mini enthusiasts and owners around the world."
