THE H.O.G.'ers (Harley Owners Group) of Bahrain will unite at the weekend on their cruise machines for a breast cancer awareness ride for Think Pink.
The event will start from the Harley- Davidson dealership on Budaiya Highway on Friday morning.
En route, the H.O.G.'ers will stop at the headquarters of Think Pink's five Platinum sponsors (Gulf Broadcast, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland-Medical University of Bahrain, Gulf Air, Gulf Brands and Riffa Golf Club) before finishing the two-hour ride at the Golf Club.
Bahraini, Sajida Saeed Tabbara, Ladies of Harley officer of the Bahrain Chapter, said: "H.O.G.'ers are supportive of a number of charitable causes on the island and Think Pink is one of them.
"We are hoping to have 20-30 H.O.G.'ers for the Think Pink awareness ride and all of us will be dressed in pink to show solidarity with the breast cancer charity.
"Think Pink empowers women by educating them about breast cancer and telling them that they are in control of their bodies.
"I am a firm believer of female empowerment and feel great about contributing to awareness drive by participating in the ride."
Ms Tabbara is a Professor of Linguistics at the University of Bahrain and will be highlighting breast cancer awareness in her classroom through study. "99.9 per cent of the students in my class this semester are females and as part of their e-learning component they will be required to read the Think Pink website and the leaflets. They will be learning English and acquiring important information in the process."
Ms Tabbara is an avid H.O.G.'er - she went on her first Middle East H.O.G. rally in Fujairah, UAE, last year.
Her love affair with bikes began at the age of six when she rode as a passenger behind one of her father's students. But, it was only last year in March that she bought her first bike - a Harley Sportster XL 1200 Low.
"I'm not into speed at my age which is why a Harley is perfect for my needs, so last year I gifted myself one on my birthday. I feel that life is too short and one needs to enjoy the things that give you joy. It is important to go after your dreams and that is why I'm a much happier person now than when I was younger!" said the Janabiyah resident, who lives with a dog and six cats.
She only recently acquired an advanced scuba diving certificate and has her sights set on mastering Reiki and horseback riding.
In her spare time Ms Tabbara rescues animals and finds homes for them. At present she has rescued five kittens, an adult female Persian and an adult male Siamese cat. Anyone interested in adopting one should contact sagetabbara@gmail.com
