World Beat Fitness Centre (WBFC) is joining hands with Think Pink once again this year to raise money and highlight the breast cancer awareness message on the island. This is the fourth year that the centre is collaborating with Think Pink and organising a number of events to support the charity.

SAPIN (Saudi Arabian Packaging Industry) has donated up to 1,000 chocolate-covered dates packed in special pink logo ribbon cans to WBFC. "All the money collected from the sale of the cans will go to Think Pink including our ticket sale money at the open day," said Jane Goodwin, 55, owner of WBFC and a cancer survivor. "If everyone in Bahrain asks the question - do you check yourself? - the chances of survival will be greatly increased through early detection. And the cans could be a starting point of that discussion," she added.

The cans priced at BD5 are being sold at WBFC, Al Osra Supermarket and Al Jazira Supermarket currently. WBFC is also organising an open day on Saturday where fitness instructors, campaign supporters and Krazy Kevin will highlight the cause through fun and games. Breast care nurse Adrienne Buck will deliver a breast cancer awareness talk to all the attendees.

Adrienne Buck in collaboration with WBFC also runs a Breast Cancer Support Group (BCSG) for cancer survivors throughout the year. The group initially started at the centre and because of growing numbers and accessibility has moved to Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel in Manama. "There is need for a greater support system for cancer survivors in Bahrain especially across the cultural divide. There is a stigma attached to support groups. BCSG is about sharing strength with each other, exchanging information and regaining self confidence," said Jane, who also conducts Nia - Healing, Movement and Meditation classes for cancer survivors every Wednesday at WBFC.
