After the success of the 2008 AMH Island Classic charity golf tournament, the organising committee is once again all set to present a tremendous event to the golfing enthusiasts of Bahrain.
The AMH Island Classic is the major fundraiser of the hospital aimed at upgrading medical equipment to keep up with the latest technology and service without affecting patient costs.
The event is held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad at his private golf course in Safriya. Last year's competition was very tough and the winners were presented their trophies by Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, who represented King Hamad. DHL emerged champions followed by Al Osra 4 and Bahrain Confidential in second and third places respectively for the Championship Flight. The Premier flight was won by Riffa Views 1 followed by Chevron 2 and 2Connect.
Bahnaz Abbas, AMH marketing and development manager and the Island Classic organiser, said: "The 2009 AMH Island Classic will commence at His Majesty the King's golf course from November 5.
"The event, which is held annually by AMH, is a part of its fund raising campaign. Fifty teams comprising 200 golfers will be competing in the Championship and Premier flights."
The opening ceremony will be at noon on the first day and the closing and awards ceremony will take place at 4pm on November 7.
This year, international golfer Iain Pyman will be joining the competitors for a round of golf at the course. Pyman holds the record with Tiger Woods for the lowest score in US Masters as an amateur.
