PIONEERING dentist Dr Ameena Mustafa, pictured right, wanted to change Bahrain's medical landscape by developing a unique dental facility.
Launched in 1999 her hard work, commitment and dedication has paid off as Gulf Dental Specialty Hospital (GDSH) continues to expand and deliver widely-acclaimed services.
Standing tall and proud in Mahooz, near Al Jazira Supermarket, the hospital remains a unique concept - the first of its kind in the country - offering quality services to patients in need of pain relief.
What is so unique about this hospital? Mainly, the fact that it is home to all the specialties within dentistry, using state-of-the-art equipment, as well as offering multiple clinics and a surgery ward.
Dr Mustafa explained: "It means the patients have access to all the dental treatment they need in one place. Moving from clinic to clinic, worrying about medical data being transferred from doctor to doctor is no longer a concern.
"You can even take a child to see the orthodontist, get a root canal yourself while your spouse gets implants ... all at the same time, in the same place! It is simply convenience and quality combined to promote the importance of dental care."
The hospital's management has continued to develop its medical care and gained an international standard in health provision by obtaining an ISO certification last year.
Today the hospital has 11 doctors of various specialties offering patients a myriad of different treatments. All the dental specialties and specialists have found a home under one roof - orthodontic, pedodontic, prosthodontic, endodentic, periodontic, oral surgery, conservative dentistry, implantology and cosmetic dentistry.
The hospital is open for patients from 9am to 1pm and 4pm to 8pm all year round (including public holidays and weekends). It also has provision for emergency cases, 24-hours a day.
Recently, the hospital has also started offering laser dentistry. Laser equipment is used to treat decay and perform soft tissue procedures on gums, cheeks and tongue. The perks are less pain, less bleeding and faster healing.
In line with their ethos to embrace modern developments in dental care, GDSH also offers bridges and crowns made of Zirconium Oxide Ceramic - implants which look exactly like natural teeth.
