The Indian Ladies Association is hosting the Leela Jashanmal Lecture with keynote speaker Praveen Nair on April 3.
She is the founder-trustee of the Salaam Baalak Trust which was set up by her and her daughter, international film-maker Mira Nair, from the proceeds of her Academy Award and Cannes Film Festival award-winning film Salaam Bombay, which dealt with the same theme.
This year, the ILA has expanded the scope of the lecture series to include a photographic exhibition of selected works of former street child Vicky Roy who is now celebrated around the world for his genius as a photographer.
He was selected among 4000 photographers in a global contest to take photographs of Ground Zero in New York as part of a commemorative effort after the 9/11 attack. The photographic exhibition, entitled 'Sweet Dreams' is being sponsored by Khalifa Shaheen Digital Images and will be on sale with proceeds going to charity.
