This week's GulfWeekly Premiership Trophy contest featured a couple of upsets with surprising score lines.
The night's first game featured the British Club pitted against the teachers of St Christopher's School. It seems that both teams had to make some unfortunate changes. The British Club's Owen Coll was suspended and key defender Paul 'Maggot' Tanner was injured.
The St Christopher's School was missing captain Mark Holness and feared the worst against a team who had been scoring goals for fun.
The match, however, turned out quite differently than what was expected as the early exchanges indicated that the teachers weren't prepared to be rolled over as they held their own during the first half.
The opening goal was one to remember. Richard Dixon-Clarke of St Christopher's received the ball 20 yards out with his back to the goal; he rolled his defender and fired in a low shot that beat the keeper all ends up.
Falling behind, however, spurned the British Club into action and it wasn't long before they were level. The Russian dynamo Andrew Savushkin was at the end of a good passing move to fire in an unstoppable effort to draw level 1-1.
The second half was a cagey affair until a long throw in was deftly touched into the back of the net by St Chris striker Dan Lee for an unexpected 2-1 lead. The Brit Club, fearing a shock defeat pushed forward for an equaliser and their efforts were duly rewarded when the club captain and the leagues top goal scorer fired in a 15 yard free kick that caught the keeper napping.
Both sides fought hard but had to settle for a deserved draw.
The second game saw the Dilmun Club, who were looking for their third win, pitted against a resurgent Saar Eagles with both sides desperate to avoid defeat.
The game, however, turned out to be a one-sided affair with the Dilmun Club midfield maestro Eamon Eagan scoring three times in a 5-1 win.
The Dilmun lads were clearly fired up and took a deserved lead when Paul Linton found the back of the net with a neat finish from an Eagan corner.
Linton then turned provider with an exquisite through ball which Eagan coolly finished with aplomb.
The Eagles pushed forward in an attempt to claw their way back into the game but a mix-up between defenders and the keeper allowed Dilmun team captain Steve Rutter to head in the third at the start of the second half.
The Eagles did get on the score sheet, a tidy finish from the mercurial Louie Dismore giving his side some hope of a comeback but that was all but extinguished when Eagan fired in at an acute angle and then finished off a counter attack for an emphatic 5-1 scoreline.
