Putting your best paw forward

THE British Embassy is once again putting its best paw forward to help the island's dumped doggies and homeless moggies.

Last year, Ambassador Jamie Bowden and his wife Sarah hosted the first ever embassy dog show in order to raise funds after hearing Tony 'the Dogfather' Waters was facing eviction along with the 100-plus dogs, cats, birds and other creatures who live at his Second Chance animal shelter.

Tony was eventually given a reprieve and the magnificent BD1,700 raised on the day was used to build new kennels and install air-conditioning to keep the animals cool during the summer.

The event was such a success that a similar one will be held this year and the funds raised will be split between the Dogfather and RIA (the Regional Institute for Active Learning), which helps children with special educational needs.

Jazz on the Lawn will take place on Saturday, April 24, from 2.30pm to 5.30pm.

Entry is BD3 for adults, with children getting in free, and the dog show costs BD1 per entry.

As the event is being held in the grounds of the British Embassy, for security reasons those planning to attend must register in advance by email, providing name and CPR/passport number at bahraindogshow2@yahoo.com
