Buyers are being warned to beware of bogusly-branded furniture bearing the hallmarks of one of Bahrain's most popular makes.

Inferior quality pieces bearing the Khazana name are being sold in the kingdom and the company, which exclusively brings in the brand from Pakistan, has issued an alert this week.

Faisal K Reshi said: "We have only four branches in Juffair, Bahrain Mall, Sheraton Hotel as well as the Oriental Handicraft Exhibition outlet in Adliya.

"I wish to alert our customers that we operate only from these stores and no others on the island. In case of any doubt, customers should contact us directly to check the authenticity of their purchases."

The store in Juffair is currently offering a 50 per cent discount on all its stock until May 20 in a bid to ensure the rouge sellers cannot compete on the price and quality of the authentic items.

Khazana, established in 1975, was one of the island's first businesses offering hand-crafted furniture and rugs from Pakistan.

At the age of 21, Faisal's late father Khawaja carried on his family trading tradition, which dated back to 1840, to the Middle East and its craftsmen have been creating exclusive pieces of furniture for homes and offices ever since.

The store first opened in Manama as Oriental Furniture before moving to Juffair under the new name Khazana - name which means 'treasure' in Urdu .

It offers fine handmade furniture, jewellery boxes, craft items made of rosewood and walnut wood, a wide assortment of vases, boxes made of hand-painted papier mache over wood or brass, decorative textiles, shawls, cushions and covers, brass, copper, onyx and ceramic products, handmade tapestries and a large selection of attractive oriental carpets also from Iran, India and Turkey.
