Three prevailing themes for autumn 2010 emerged from this season's runways, according to style gurus at Saks Fifth Avenue: Metropolis, Town & Country and Daydream Romance.

Whether you go 'rock'n'roll' in leather, casual menswear-inspired trousers, or dainty in lace, don't forget about these 'must-haves' for the season, say fashion buyers at the store in Bahrain City Centre which is currently displaying a wide range of styles from the world's top designers.

Metropolis is all about a dark glamour. The head-to-toe look is pure luxury, utilising sumptuous fabrications including lace, velvet, jacquard and brocade in combination with fur, feathers and leather. Sequins, crystals and intricate beading add sparkle and shine.

Town & Country projects casual luxury, putting a twist on the classics. Key menswear fabrications such as plaid, grey flannel, herringbone and tweed combine with military elements in ready-to-wear and accessories. Knitwear features sweater coats and updated traditional patterns such as Fairisle, stripes and Nordic.

Daydream Romance puts the emphasis on soft, feminine and charming details. Think ruffles, layers and pretty pale colors. Winter whites, pale greys and dusty shades coupled with fur or lingerie details give knitwear a seductive touch.

Novelty Outerwear: This season's outerwear is for all occasions, whether dressy or casual. Coats are the central focus with beautiful, fresh adaptations of all styles: duffles, sweater coats, shearlings, and gorgeously reinterpreted classic camelhair coats.

Knits: Snuggle up in style with knits that go from work to workout, daytime to date night. From chunky textures and classic patterns to fur-trimmed collar and cuff details -sweater coats, pullovers or feminine cardigans - staying toasty has never been more versatile.

Winter Shorts: Sassy or elegant, winter shorts are a must this autumn. Worn layered over tights or leggings - which come in a full range, from rib-knit to lacy - and accessorised with boots, this trend makes it easy to pull together an outfit with attitude.

Sequins: Autumn/Winter catwalk trends often see the return of embellishments to lift the darker colour palettes and this season is no exception. Sequins are a key feature in many of the collections, not in subtle detailing but in bold statement colours and designs.

Leather: Leather is not just for outerwear anymore. Treated in new ways, from ultra soft glove-grade quality to rugged or distressed, leather makes an appearance as skirts, vests, dresses and jackets, some featuring ruffle trim and laser-cut details.

Dresses: Dresses take a bold twist this season. Bright colours and bold prints are enhanced against simple dress designs. The focus is on the print and the colours. Fabrics are soft and feminine like silks, chiffons and cotton. Accessorised only with minimum jewelley and simple stilettos.

Fur: Both real and faux fur make the headlines this season. Whether used as the trimming on accessories, accenting hemlines or present all over, fur will be noticed. Capelets are making a big comeback, adding a touch of worldly glamour to this autumn's pulled-together look. Think fur when it comes to accessorising. The accent of choice for shoes, booties, bags and gloves, fur adds instant glamour and sophistication.

Lace: Strategically-placed lace inserts that adorn backs or run down the sides lighten up the season and add femininity to knitwear and other essentials. Lace makes an appearance in many guises including florals and animal prints.

Boots: Nothing makes a statement like boots with attitude. From high to low, over-the-knee to booties, footwear this season co-ordinates with every style.

Bags: Lady bags are back in style. This season's structured, midsized, handheld purses conjure up a genteel lifestyle and provide a versatile addition to the handbag wardrobe. Small clutches and delicate detailing rejuvenate our evening wardrobe.
