RED BULL (Sebastian Vettel 4, Mark Webber 6): Webber took the championship lead for the third time this season, recovering from a bad start that dropped him from fourth on the grid to ninth at the end of the first lap. He then lost a lot of time behind Hulkenberg's Williams.

Vettel had an engine scare on lap 20, when Webber went past, but it turned out to be a brake problem. He recovered position by waiting until the last lap for his pitstop. Red Bull stretched their lead in the constructors' championship to three points from one.

MCLAREN (Jenson Button 2, Lewis Hamilton retired): Button finished where he started but was disappointed after leading more than half of the race. The pitstop timing was crucial.

Hamilton went out on lap one after banging wheels with Ferrari's Massa, losing the championship lead.

FERRARI (Fernando Alonso 1, Felipe Massa 3): Alonso's first Italian Grand Prix as a Ferrari driver produced his second Monza victory, third win of the season and 24th of his career. It was Ferrari's 18th Italian GP win, from their first F1 pole since 2008. Alonso moved up to third in the championship, Massa stayed sixth.

MERCEDES (Nico Rosberg 5, Michael Schumacher 9): Rosberg lost a place to Vettel at the end and moved up to seventh in the standings. Schumacher, who started 12th, was passed by both the Red Bulls.

RENAULT (Robert Kubica 8, Vitaly Petrov 13): Kubica passed Hulkenberg and the two Red Bulls at the start and was fifth after the first lap. He then had a slow pitstop and lost two places.

Petrov, given a five-place grid penalty, described the afternoon as part of his F1 learning curve.

FORCE INDIA (Vitantonio Liuzzi 12, Adrian Sutil 16): Sutil was near the rear of the field after lap one and had to make two stops, one for a new front wing. Liuzzi suffered from a poor grid position.

WILLIAMS (Nico Hulkenberg 7, Rubens Barrichello 10): Fourth double-points finish of the season for the former champions. Barrichello was stuck in traffic for much of the race.

SAUBER (Pedro de la Rosa 14, Kamui Kobayashi 23): Kobayashi started from the pit lane and stopped on the first lap with a suspected ECU problem that damaged the gearbox. De la Rosa started 15th.

TORO ROSSO (Sebastien Buemi 11, Jaime Alguersuari 15): Alguersuari picked up a drive-through penalty for cutting the chicane, his second in two races.
