GLEE'S Matthew Morrison wants his character Will Shuester to stay single - so he can kiss more small-screen beauties.

The star of the hit TV show saw good-hearted music teacher Will split from his controlling wife Teri in the first series and is now filming the next season, but wants Will to remain a bachelor.

Matthew said: "I'd like Will to stay single - it's so interesting to play a newly-single person. He's been married for 15 years, and now he has to figure who he is without someone else. It's fun to play with that. Also, it means I get to kiss a lot of women!"

The 31-year-old actor is delighted Glee has become such a worldwide phenomenon, and believes it has more to offer than raunchy vampire shows like True Blood and The Vampire Diaries.

Entering its second season, Glee is a biting musical comedy that has quickly become a pop-culture phenomenon. The highest-rated new scripted series of the season boasts critical acclaim, a loyal fan base of 'GLEEks', two certified Gold albums, more than 10 million song downloads and an incredible 19 Emmy nominations - earning it the distinction of being the most-nominated series of the year.

Matthew added: "It's got comedy, drama and music - it has something for everyone. It's also clearly something we need. There are so many procedural dramas about doctors and lawyers out there and so many vampire shows. This offers something completely different.

"Everyone is now talking about 'the Glee generation', and that's brilliant. I went to a performing arts high school and it ran a great programme. Since Glee has been on, enrolment at that high school has doubled. That speaks to what's happened on this show.

"Above all, it reminds us that the arts really matter. For someone like me who's grown up with song and dance, it's astonishing to be leading that change for a new generation. I find it so hopeful and inspiring."

The second season will premiere on September 21. Last week a Season 2 premiere party was held in Hollywood and many of the show's stars and guest stars were on the red carpet. Among the featured guest stars this year will be John Stamos, better known as Uncle Jesse on the TV series Full House.
