Wednesday (Sept 22) The Craic Attack featuring two comedians John Scott and Pete Johansson will take place at the Crowne Plaza Bahrain. Pete is a favourite at London's renowned Comedy Store and John was part of the Edinburgh Festival's celebrated 'Stand up Scotland' show.

Bahrain-based artist Seana Mercedes Mallen will conduct three sessions as part of the Awali Arts events at Studio Ceramics on Budaiya Highway. Drawing for Everyone (a one-off session) takes place today from noon to 2.30pm, a six-week course on 'drawing to watercolour' starts on Sunday from 11.30am to 1.30pm and a six-week course of 'the painting studio' opens on Monday from 7pm to 9.30pm. The Prerana Film Society will showcase Aparajitho at the Kannada Sangha at 8pm. The 1956 award-winning Indian film was directed by Satyajit Ray. The story is about a 10 year old boy called Apu. After living in Benares for sometimes, he and his mother move in with her uncle in a small Bengali village.

Apu enters a local school, where he does well. By the time he graduates, he has a scholarship to study at a college in Calcutta. His mother is torn by his leaving and by his growing independence. For details contact 39643309.

Friday (Sept 24)

The Batelco Melodic Meet will be held at the Indian School grounds in Isa Town. Organised by the Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation (BDSF), in association with the Kerala Arts and Cultural Association (KACA), the event will feature performances by vocalists Mohammad Aslam, Faride and Sindhu Menon, mimicry specialists Baiju Jose and Babu Jose and film star Monica from India. Tickets cost BD1 and double up as raffle tickets to win a Mitsubishi Lancer and 20 other prizes.

Desibel featuring Dubai-based DJ Jeff will take place at Club 7 at the Mishal Hotel in Hoora from 10pm onwards. His music tastes range from House, RnB and Hip Hop to Desi and Bhangra. He is currently the resident DJ at Dubai's Club Catwalk.

Saturday (Sept 25)

The World Beat Fitness Centre & CafŽ in Janabiya will host the opening of an art exhibition by Perryhan Al Ashmawi on Saturday from 4pm to 6pm. Perryhan grew up in Bahrain and continuously draws on a hybrid contemporary culture and her travels between Canada, Egypt and the kingdom. It helps her combine traditional and Western styles. She uses illustrations, music album covers and graffiti to incorporate into a traditional art form.

Hap-A-T's trial classes end today. The 'clever cooks' and 'monkeynatix' classes for children will resume and will be held for 10 weeks. The facility will be closed on public holidays and Fridays, unless advertised otherwise. The Isa Town Mall is hosting a two-month-long festival of shopping, fun and entertainment. The festivity, which continues till November 14, will feature a host of events and attractions for shoppers including a 'Shop & Win' raffle draw where winners can take home prizes including two brand new Honda Civic cars, a Panasonic DVD HDMI Home Theatre and 42-inch HD Ready VIErA Plasma TV, as well as other products.

All shoppers are eligible to enter the draws for the raffle on purchase of BD10 at any retail outlet in the mall. They will receive a coupon which they can drop into a Big Win Box at the customer service desk to qualify for the draw.

The Albareh Art Gallery in Adliya will present an exhibition entitled 'Mirage' featuring Egyptian artist Hazem Taha until October 16.
