THE Microsoft Imagine Cup is one of the world's premier student technology competitions.

Promoted by Microsoft Bahrain, in collaboration with the University of Bahrain, it is open to all students and graduates aged 18 to 28.

This year's theme is 'imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems facing us today'.

Bahrain's finalists will first showcase their projects at the regional finals of the Gulf Imagine Cup 2011 in Dubai next April and the winners of this competition will then travel to compete for the world title in New York City, US in July.

The competition started in 2003 and is now in its ninth year. This year it brought together more than 325,000 talented students from 120 countries.

Badea Esbai, Microsoft's country manager, said: "We strongly believe in the role that Imagine Cup plays in our region to fuel innovation, drive creativity and create student-led start-up companies as part of the local software economy.

"This year, we are really looking to expand our efforts in the region and our reach to the various universities so we want to get the message across to as many students that 'Yes, they can' and it's entirely up to them to make a difference to compete and to win."

Interested students should register and submit ideas by February 2011 on www.imaginecupgulf.com
