ALUMINIUM Bahrain's (Alba) efforts to strengthen the quality of Bahrain's workforce, received a boost with the recent launch of the Preparatory Programme for Alba's vocational trainees at the Bahrain Polytechnic, Isa Town.
Bahrain Polytechnic developed the programme to train and access over 70 shortlisted candidates in English, mathematics and physics prior to their induction in the two-year Alba Vocational Training Programme.
The training will be conducted in three batches lasting four weeks each, and 60 trainees are expected to be inducted into the programme.
Alba chief executive Laurent Schmitt said: "Alba takes great pride in the quality of work demonstrated by its Bahraini employees who comprise nearly 87 per cent of the company's total workforce.
"Our success as one of the world's leading aluminium smelters is due to the hard work and dedication shown by our employees. The Vocational Training Programme has been one of Alba's major initiatives to impart skills to Bahraini youth to enhance their employability, support the Bahrainisation of the labour market, and look for ways to employ skilled Bahrainis in Alba.
"We truly appreciate the work that Bahrain Polytechnic is doing in preparing the trainees for the Vocational Training Programme. This level of support and co-operation between industrial bodies and higher educational institutions is crucial for the success of our industry."
