The importance of staying united

IT'S hard to pretend that nothing's been happening, here in our little island kingdom.

In fact, the current situation is all that's been on my mind, over the past week or so.

I've heard the shots, smelled the tear gas and solemnly heard the wail of sirens and the constant hovering of helicopters.

Granted, I'm not Bahraini but having been born here and living in the country ever since, I am shaken up and deeply concerned, nonetheless.

With the numerous rallies, it has come to light that there appear to be many kinds of supporters. Most have taken sides, most have their own issues. But in all the words spoken, in all the chants bellowed, in all the banners held high, in all the flags being waved, there continues to be one resounding common ideal ... the love and respect people have for Bahrain and the urge everyone shares to see the country progress and prosper.

The most sensible step is underway now as dialogue ensues.

Discussion is crucial at this stage as all parties have a say in what they think is best for this country.

It is important to remember that common goal in this situation. It is important that everyone stays calm and peaceful and most importantly united. Bahrain has lost some brave men and my heart goes out to those families in their time of sorrow. We should honour them by staying and working together, to quell the differences that have arisen.

Let us once more reinstate the peace in our hospitable island, bring security to homes and show the world how great the kingdom really is.

Peace and understanding can help us through these times and will hopefully bring Bahrain out on the road to progress, stability and happiness.
