Pantomime villain Gattuso is no match for former hardman Jordan

As GulfWeekly went to press, Gennaro Gattuso was waiting to hear his fate after losing his head and taking on Spur's assistant boss, Joe Jordan, by the throat and aiming a head-butt at him, writes Abu George.

Now 60 years old and after two hip replacements, many would have thought that the old-age former hardman would have crumpled at the feet of the modern Italian equivalent.

If anything, this encounter only served to confirm that the modern age footballers are pure drama with Gattuso nothing more than a pantomime villain. Jordan is the man who had four teeth kicked out in a goalmouth scramble during a Leeds reserve match and had his jaw dislocated while playing upfront for Manchester United.

In a recent poll he was voted in the top 25 hardmen of all time - he was the only forward. Gattuso, nicknamed Ringhio (the growl), who cut his teeth (and presumably a few heels) with Glasgow Rangers and has won two European titles with Milan and one World Cup with Italy, has a reputation for snapping at ankles and snarling (even striking) opponents.

Even with false teeth, two hip replacements and one eye on a bus pass, he's still able to brush off and laugh at the hardest man modern Italian football has to offer. And. what does Gattuso have to show for his efforts? Besides the loss of his image, hopefully a lengthy ban.
