ORGANISERS of the #UniteBH initiative - a national campaign aimed at helping unite the country - is calling on talented performers to step forward.

They hope to organise a series of events including poetry sessions, art exhibitions and music presentations by Bahraini and expats with the backing of the Social Development Ministry.

Poetry used in the campaign will be compiled into a book and works of art will be turned into postcards and sent free of cost to embassies and TV stations across the world to prove that Bahrain is back in business.

"We plan to involve every segment of the local community to best reflect true national exchange and form a widespread range of age, cultural and ethical perspectives," said Rashid Riaz, campaign manager.

Rashid, 26, recently helped set up the successful Onside Bahrain - a volunteer support group. As part of its mentorship programme, the volunteers created a series of education tours to various landmarks of Bahrain as well as new development projects, natural parks, industrial zones and souqs.

This new initiative is a spin-off which has been set up by Rashid with fellow volunteer Sara Sabt, 20, from Shakhura, who is acting as project head.

"Our aim is to bring people together with the arts and entertainment - unite them on common ground and avoiding politics altogether."

The #UniteBH campaign has already recorded an English song entitled One Day featuring the vocal talents of Alharit Alatawi. It was set to be aired locally yesterday and internationally on US and French airwaves in the near future.

The young professionals also plan to produce a series of video interviews with leading personalities from the world of business, commerce and entertainment in Bahrain.

On Monday they met up with Zayed Zayani, managing director of Zayani Investments and Euro Motors' managing director, at The Royal Golf Club at Riffa Views.

The initial programme to be staged at the Cultural Hall next to the Bahrain National Museum in Manama is as follows:

April 20 - Poetry session, literature and art exhibition and jamming session by local performers

April 21 - Presentations by painters, photographers, musicians, entrepreneurs, local business owners and productive families among others

April 22 - #UniteBH Concert by local Bahraini musicians, live art and local souq and art exhibition
