A right royal knees-up is being planned at the British Club in Manama to celebrate the wedding of Prince William to his sweetheart Kate Middleton.

The venue will be transformed with trestle tables forming a traditional street party scene and every corner of the premises will be decked out in red, white and blue as a big screen broadcasts the ceremony live from Westminster Abbey.

Members and guests will feast on traditional British fare which includes cucumber sandwiches with the crusts cut off, fish 'n' chips and cream teas to ensure the true essence of Old Blighty savours through.

The bash is being put together by general manager Peter Down, entertainment member Rodney Davies and lady member Karen Cartawick alongside other committee executives, with the aim of ensuring the winner of 'the best British social club in the world' accolade lives up to its reputation.

"When you're living away from home you can't help but feel even more patriotic," explained Mr Down. "We felt it was important to mark the occasion of the royal wedding in style and share our culture and traditions with our Bahraini friends and other members of the international community who frequent the club."

Mr Davies, who spearheads business development at the Bahrain International Circuit, said: "This is the sort of occasion when the British stiff upper lip image dissolves - we really know how to celebrate and party!"

Mother-of-two Mrs Cartawick, from Cheshire, who is married to Len, a senior project manager, said: "There's going to be something for everyone with plenty of family games and fun including coconut shies, fancy dress parade for the kids and market stalls for the adults."

The event has taken three months to organise and kicks off early on April 29 with a traditional English fry-up being served from 8am. A BBQ will be available from 11am and a large screen will capture all the love from London in the Ascot Restaurant which is being renamed the Windsor Room for the occasion.

At 2.30pm the street party will start, followed by the fancy dress parade at 4pm. Frankie's Friends Showband will entertain from 6pm with tombola and other surprises to follow.
