Mean machine captivates crowds

THERE'S no dodging the fact that US motoring giant Chrysler is on the way up - and among the many new models under its umbrella helping to drive the company forward are the dynamic Dodge duo - the 2011 Durango and the Charger.

The all-new Durango, a family favourite on the roads of Bahrain, was recently launched amid fanfare at the Ahmed Zayani & Sons showroom in Zinj and, last week, it was the turn on the fearsome-looking Charger.

There was no need for dishy-looking models to unwrap the mean machine; this car is captivating enough for director Riyadh Zayani to feel confident enough to line-up alongside it with his smartly-suited senior sales force alone.

"There's nothing quite like it on the road," he said with a healthy list of potential customers queuing up to test drive it.

Since 2006 hundreds of Chargers have been sold to drivers in the kingdom keen on a niche executive car with a touch of muscle and fellow distributors on the island, Behbehani Brothers, has recorded similar success.

The vehicle is also particularly popular with police patrolling the highways, particularly those powered by the legendary 5.7 litre Hemi engine, although the meaty 3.5-litre V6 which powers the entry level model is more than capable of its own aggressive growl.

Chrysler Group chief executive officer Sergio Marchionne recently said: "The group's improved sales and financial performance show that our rejuvenated product line-up is gaining momentum and resonating with customers."
