Gulf Weekly Thank you, Bernie

SCHOOLBOY Umran Sharief’s note to Bernie Ecclestone must have melted the F1 supremo’s heart as he read through the dossier of messages urging for this year’s Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix to be reinstated.

He was one of thousands of readers who voiced support for the GulfWeekly community campaign and wrote: “Please bring F1 back to Bahrain. I am 11 years old and I am a great fan of F1 and follow all the races on TV.

“I was waiting to watch it live this year. My parents had promised me that if I got good marks at school they would take me and now that I have done well in my studies I want to watch F1 live. Please come back Bernie!”

His dream will soon become a reality as Bernie’s F1 bandwagon will be rolling into the kingdom again. Umran, who lives in Barbar with his father Ahmed, a construction contractor, mum Asma, an architect, and sister, Nabila, 17, said: “I haven’t stopped smiling – I thought I had missed out but now the race is back on!”

His 10 out 10 score in a maths test at the Indian School was the deciding factor. Umran is convinced Sebastian Vettel will win this year’sGulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, adding to the five out of six race victories the German driver has so far recorded this season.
