The Arsenal Soccer School Bahrain Ladies League put on a dazzling display with six teams battling it out for vital points in a bid to lift the GulfWeekly Premiership Trophy.
Arsenal Red annihilated the Eastern Flames with an impressive 14-1 victory. Red striker Reema Al Qassab, who was voted last season’s player of the campaign, nabbed 11 goals, Captain Alaa Al Alawi bagged two and striker Hayley Kunde notched one. The Flames winger Wendi Monson scored a consolation.
Deena Rahman, senior coach at Arsenal Soccer School Bahrain and star of the kingdom’s national women’s team, said: “This score does not reflect the improvement and structure of the Eastern Flames and special mention has to go to Zamzam Al Mahsoon who played a great game in goal, stopping many more opportunities.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal Blue lost 2-3 to table toppers St Christopher’s Seniors in a very entertaining game. The Seniors took the lead through forward Rebecca Sharrock. However, the Blues fought back and grabbed an equaliser from midfielder Dalal Abdulrahim.
Sharrock scored a second followed by a goal from teammate Mille Gallagher, putting St Chris in the driving seat.
Blue’s dynamic captain Rama Salem pulled a goal back but it proved too little, too late. St Chris remain top of the table although there is only goal difference between them and last season’s cup champions, Joga Bonito.
In the final game of the night, Joga Bonito edged past newcomers Bahrain U16 National team when forward Reem Albash grabbed the winner.
As GulfWeekly went to press, the U16 team took on Eastern Flames, Arsenal Blue went up against Joga Bonito and St Christopher’s Intermediate took on Arsenal Red. Full report next week.
