This is a very busy week for me – not only have I got to squeeze in some birthday celebrations but I also have to calm the nerves before the weekend as I nip over to sunny Manchester to do the best man duties at a friend’s wedding.
So with a mixture of excitement AND trepidation I have planned the best man speech, and have been wondering what other duties are expected of me on such a special day.
One thing I know for sure and will be a great relief to all the wedding guests, I certainly will not be DJ’ing.
Trying to entertain a wedding party is difficult as most guests want to chat to long lost friends and relatives – so even with the best songs being played as requested, most of the time the DJ will only hear ‘Can you turn it down, we’re trying to talk!’. So, does the DJ try to create a party atmosphere or bow to the guest’s wishes?
Either way, you know for certain that at some point during a wedding reception you will have to play:
ABBA – Dancing Queen Village People – YMCA B52’s – Love Shack Madonna – Like A Virgin Whitney Houston – I Wanna Dance With Somebody The Beatles – Twist And Shout Roy Orbison – Pretty Woman Foundations – Build Me Up Buttercup
So, wish me luck and a safe return because we have something VERY SPECIAL lined up for you throughout November.
Until next time let me leave you with this thought: It’s what people don’t know about each other that makes them such good friends.
Editor’s note: Congratulations to Howard and Zara Yuill on their special day - from all at the GulfWeekly!
