When you’re planning your next holiday adventure, why not head to India and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of this diverse, culturally-rich country?

The vibrant city of Chennai, capital city of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, is the perfect place to get acquainted with the best of India with authentic dishes, exciting activities and beautiful nearby beaches aplenty.

Begin your adventure by learning a little more at the Government Museum. Also known as the Madras Museum, it’s the second oldest museum in the country, established in 1851. In addition to having the largest collection of Roman antiques outside of Europe, the museum has 46 galleries covering everything from Hindu sculptures to zoology.

Next, head over to the Ramakrishna Temple, a sanctuary in the middle of a busy city. Guests can meditate inside the temple, walk through the beautiful grounds and enjoy the scenery, or learn more about the origins of the temple and its history.

After exploring the city, relax in the sun and sand beside the Indian Ocean. On the 13km stretch at Marina beach you can see cricket matches, fortune tellers, fish markets and people lounging by the water enjoying the sunshine. Once you’re finished there you can hop over to one of the several other beaches in the surrounding area for an afternoon of rest or recreation.

No trip to Chennai would be complete without tasting some authentic Indian cuisine, and while you’re in the city you’re absolutely spoiled for choice. Visit a small restaurant off the beaten track for some local delights or head to a luxury restaurant to sample the best ingredients.

The city of Chennai is also known for being a travel hub in India and tourists can easily travel to other neighbouring parts of the country. You can head over to Bangalore or travel down the coast and see more of India by the sea.

There are hotels in the city to suit every budget.

Flights to Chennai run year round, so it’s easy to get to your destination and once you’re there, you can uncover all the things on offer in this bustling city.
