The Whisperer

It would appear that the organisers of the Volvo Golf Champions are not getting it all their own way after snubbing Bahrain’s Royal Golf Club and moving the $500,000 event to The Links at Fancourt in South Africa.

Our fair-weather friends were told to go jump in a bunker when they requested the course be shut down for a week (in the same manner as last year in the kingdom) before the stars tee off on January 19, insiders told the Whisperer.

Also, the official press release fails to mention Bahrain as the original host location instead stating the inaugural Volvo Golf Champions, which was staged as a ‘celebration of global golf’ last January, saw Englishman Paul Casey triumph, securing his place in the Fancourt field.

Funnily enough, commenting on the selection of The Links at Fancourt, Per Ericsson, president, Volvo Event Management said: “Quality, both in the challenge the golf course will pose to the field of proven champions and in the infrastructure, was a key consideration and The Links at Fancourt is among the best in the world.”

Flashback 12 months ago and the same man was singing the praises of the Riffa Views course and promising to kick off the European Tour here in Bahrain.
